Building
Brighter Futures for the Children of Latin
America
Child Aid’s vision is to
provide children in Latin America with access
to an education and health care. Child Aid
helps poor children by establishing partnerships
with grassroots community organizations
in Latin America working to remove barriers
to their children’s health and education.
After helping a local
group to develop the skills to sustain itself
and grow, Child Aid moves
on to assist somewhere else. In this way,
we’re helping to create organizations
that have a lasting impact
… building brighter futures for poor
children. |
Child Aid works
with and supports the following partners:

PROBIGUA
(The Guatemalan
Library Project/Proyecto Bibliotecas Guatemala)
"Your
parents were given arms to fight for the
right to be free, today we are giving
you books to do the same."
—Rigoberto
Zamora Charuc,
founder of PROBIGUA, to a group of Guatemalan
school children.
More than 50% of Guatemalans cannot read
beyond the simplest of words.
|
Books are
prohibitively expensive in Guatemala and
libraries scarce. PROBIGUA works to curb
rampant illiteracy by building libraries
in some of the poorest and most marginalized
communities in Guatemala. PROBIGUA operates
a selection of literacy programs and a Spanish
immersion school to establish
and further its mission.
Biblioteca Movil / Book Mobile
For those schools without libraries, PROBIGUA
operates the only mobile library in Guatemala.
Biblioteca Movil serves 4,300 children
annually.
Scholarship Program
Approximately 50 high-achieving indigenous
children and young adults from backgrounds
of extreme poverty receive annual scholarships
to complete their education.
Spanish as a Foreign Language
School
PROBIGUA runs
the Academia de Español PROBIGUA,
where visitors of all levels can learn
Spanish from university-trained Guatemalan
teachers. PROBIGUA tutors participate
in Speak Shop, teaching Spanish via online
videoconferencing to students around the
world. School proceeds go
towards PROBIGUA’s work fighting
illiteracy and providing education.

AveNicaraguita
Ave Nicaraguita Spanish Language School provides options for language training and opportunities
to volunteers. To assist students in quickly and efficiently establishing a firm foundation Spanish,
Ave Nicaraguita immersion programs help students to communicate effectively and introduce them to
Nicaraguan social and cultural life. The school Ave Nicaraguita operates its own programs in Granada,
Managua, Masatepe-Masaya and in Juigalpa. Through partnerships with local schools, Ave Nicaraguita
operates programs in Leon, Esteli and San Juan del Sur. Notably, the "Flor de Pochote" Eco-Farm
campus in Masatepe, Masaya is a great destination for international students and their companions;
the campus is located near a volcano and a crater lake. Students may decide on the transfer to these
places while on-site in Granada, Nicaragua.
Ave Nicaragüita offers the following:
Spanish Lessons in small groups or one-on-one
Online lessons through Speak Shop (Coming Soon!)
Spanish Practice in Various Contexts
Survival Spanish and Ad-hoc Courses
Visits to Commmunities and Projects
Volunteering Opportunities (for example: women's empowerment and anti-discrimination program,
child orphanage, penitentiary, and preschool programs)
Tourist Information and Transportation
Social Responsibility Note from the Founders
Founded by two Nicaraguan sisters with decades of teaching experience,
we are socially conscious Nicaraguans who are excited about teaching Spanish as a second language,
and sharing our culture and hospitality with international visitors. We hope that our relationships
with students are mutually productive and there can be an equal exchange of knowledge and expertise.
We are a small family business. We treat both our employees and our clients fairly and with respect.
We believe that running our business in an ethical manner is an essential part of our contribution
towards improving the Nicaraguan community. It is our hope that our business project will help to
bring in foreign capital and generate job opportunities for local Nicaraguans. We estimate, that
in addition to language teachers, there may be increased employment for taxi drivers, "cocheros"
(horse cart drivers), dance instructors and restaurateurs.
For more information about Ave Nicaragüita and Spanish or volunteer programs, be sure to visit the school's website or contact them through e-mail or telephone.
