Speak Shop envisions a world where people have access to economic opportunities and
can earn a fair wage based on the quality and consistency of their service. In many parts
of the world, there are barriers that keep people from prospering despite their hard work and education.
Speak Shop tutors are highly qualified, some with masters’ degrees in addition to teaching
certifications. As native-speaking tutors based in developing countries like Guatemala and Nicaragua, they are uniquely qualified
to teach Spanish and culture. By using Speak Shop, they can, for the first time, participate in the global
economy. Without the Internet, these teachers depend on the sporadic cycles of tourism for
their jobs. At Speak Shop, each tutor can set her own rates and teach year-round.

Did you know that 75% of Guatemalans live below the poverty line? Despite being uniquely
skilled and working hard, tutors are unable to thrive in countries such as Guatemala and Nicaragua because of limited work opportunities.
